President Mesić receives the delegation of the Croatian United Nations Association

April 14th, 2009. Zagreb, Croatia

Croatian President Stjepan Mesić received a delegation of the Croatian United Nations Association.

President Mesić praised the activities of the Association, and emphasized the need for affirmation of the United Nations in the Croatian public as an irreplaceable instrument of peacekeeping and stability in the world. He added that UN reform is unavoidable, as, in its basic structure, the UN has remained the same as it was when it was first founded, while the world has radically changed in the mean time.

The members of the Association have informed the President of the Republic of their ongoing activities, notably of their preparations for marking the anniversary of Croatia’s acceptance into the global organization. They added that, like all other NGO’s, they are struggling with the issue of financing their projects. The enthusiasm of the young members for reviving the Association that had been founded back in the early nineties and later ceased to exist, has been commended.

President Mesić promised his full support to the Croatian United Nations Association.
